Aamir Khan-Backed ‘Batwara 1947’ Set for Massive Box Office Face-off This Independence Day WeekendC

The box office is gearing up for a massive theatrical showdown this Independence Day weekend. The makers of Sunny Deol’s highly anticipated period drama, Batwara 1947, officially announced on Tuesday that the film has locked its release date for August 14, 2026. This cinematic spectacle is set to clash directly with Emraan Hashmi’s romantic action thriller sequel, Awarapan 2.

Previously titled Lahore 1947, the film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi and backed by Aamir Khan Productions. Unveiling the official poster on X, the production house teased Deol’s intense avatar with the caption, “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage.” The gripping poster depicts Sunny Deol brandishing a torch in the middle of the Partition riots, fiercely shielding a terrified Preity Zinta and their two children from the surrounding chaos.

Batwara 1947 marks a series of monumental reunions and first-time collaborations. While this is the first professional pairing between powerhouse actors Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan, it reunites Deol with Santoshi after legendary hits like Ghayal and Damini. Furthermore, the project brings together the beloved on-screen pairing of Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta for the first time since their 2018 action-comedy Bhaiaji Superhit.

Boasting a stellar ensemble cast, the film also features veteran actress Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, and Karan Deol. The high-profile technical crew includes an iconic musical score by A.R. Rahman, lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar, and cinematography by Santosh Sivan. With high stakes and a prime holiday weekend slot, the battle for box office supremacy between Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 is bound to keep cinema lovers highly anticipating August.
