Anurag Kashyap revealed that there was a fight to get more credit in the film as it had many actors.
When it comes to actors demanding something, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s method of solving problems is to stoop so low that those involved in the crisis feel embarrassed at the end of it. Kashyap, who is considered one of the most flamboyant Hindi filmmakers of the moment, said his intention is just to make the film, tantrums and fights aside.
Citing the example of the making of his acclaimed two-act epic gangster drama Gangs of Wasseypur, Kashyap recalled how the production faced a problem when some of the cast demanded bigger hotel rooms. Gangs of Wasseypur featured actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha and Huma Qureshi.
“Gangs of Wasseypur had a well-known actor and other unknown actors. Some people said they wanted a bigger hotel room, so I said okay, and stayed in the smallest and the cheapest room. So, suddenly everything was equal and people were embarrassed to ask for more because I and my cameraman were staying in the cheapest rooms, which were literally big enough to only hold a bed. So, people stopped asking for more,” the filmmaker said at the Marrakech Film Festival.
Kashyap revealed that it was not just during production but also during editing when there were fights to get more space in the film’s credits, as it was a big multi-starrer.
He said, “Since there were so many actors in the film, everyone was fighting over whose name would come first. I put my name at the bottom of the film and said you guys decide. When I did that, everyone said okay, put our names at the end. This is my way of solving the problem – I just want to make the film.”
The filmmaker recently wrapped up shooting for his next untitled film starring Bobby Deol and is currently awaiting the release of his next film Kennedy starring Rahul Bhatt and Sunny Leone.
