Actor Krishna Arrested in Expanding Chennai Drug Probe; Tamil Film Industry on Edge

In a significant escalation of Tamil Nadu’s high-profile cocaine investigation, Chennai Police have arrested actor Krishna following an intensive 18-hour interrogation. The development follows the earlier arrests of actor Srikanth and former AIADMK IT wing functionary T. Prasad, both of whom are alleged to be part of a widening narcotics network with links to the film industry and political circles.

Krishna, known for his roles in Kazhugu, Yaamirukka Bayamey, and Anjali, was initially detained at the Nungambakkam Police Station after voluntarily appearing for questioning. His name surfaced during the interrogation of alleged drug supplier Pradeep Kumar, who reportedly provided cocaine to Prasad. Investigators say Prasad introduced several film personalities, including Srikanth and Krishna, to the narcotics circuit.

According to police sources, Krishna had gone off the grid following Srikanth’s arrest, prompting the formation of four special squads to trace his whereabouts. Cybercrime units tracked his phone and financial records, leading to his eventual appearance at the station. During questioning, Krishna denied all allegations, citing chronic gastritis and heart conditions that he claimed made drug use medically impossible.

Despite his denial, authorities have conducted a full medical examination, including blood tests, to determine recent drug consumption. Results are pending. Srikanth, who was arrested earlier for allegedly purchasing cocaine at ₹12,000 per gram, is also awaiting toxicology reports.

The investigation has already led to the arrest of at least four individuals, including alleged peddler Kevin and businessman Ajay Vandiyar, who is being probed for land fraud and intimidation. Police are also examining digital communications and financial transactions to establish the extent of the network.

The case has sent shockwaves through the Tamil film industry, with production houses and distributors closely monitoring developments. Two leading actresses are reportedly under scrutiny, though officials have not confirmed their identities.

Krishna, the younger brother of director Vishnu Varadhan and son of a film producer, has been remanded in custody pending further investigation. Police have indicated that additional arrests may follow as they continue to unravel the network’s operations across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
