Aditya Dhar’s spy action thriller ‘Dhurandhar’, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, has received a disappointing response at the Japanese box office after its release on July 10. According to trade reports, the film witnessed a slow opening and failed to secure a place among Japan’s top 25 films during its opening weekend.
The film recorded around 900 viewers on its first day across multiple locations in Japan. Initial reports stated that the movie registered 449 footfalls by 2 pm across 57 theatres, but the response remained limited during the later part of the day, taking the total footfall to nearly 900 across 80 locations.
The opening numbers placed ‘Dhurandhar’ below the benchmark required to enter the list of the highest-opening Indian films in Japan. S.S. Rajamouli’s blockbuster ‘RRR’ continues to hold the record for the biggest opening day by an Indian film in Japan, with 8,230 footfalls, followed by films such as ‘Saaho’, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, ‘Pathaan’, ‘Salaar’, ‘Jawan’, ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Tiger 3’.
Despite the slow start, the film’s performance will be closely monitored in the coming days as audience response, word-of-mouth publicity, and extended screenings could influence its overall box office journey in the Japanese market.
