ICAR Nagaland Centre, Medziphema organised three-day training programme on “scientific backyard poultry farming for enhancing the tribal farmers income” on February 17 and 19.
A press release by ICAR Nagaland centre, Medziphema stated that 27 participants from Chesezu village of Phek district attended the training programme.
The training involved importance of scientific backyard poultry farming, housing management, brooding of chicks and feeding management.
Health management of birds under backyard condition and vaccinations training was imparted to the tribal farmers and hands-on training on different vaccination in general and Ranikhet disease was demonstrated to the farmers.
Speaking at the closing function, chairman, Farmer’s Union of the village shared about difficulties in getting improved chicks and different inputs to the villagers.
He also stated that there used to be high mortality of chicken and pigs in his village due to lack of knowledge and skills.
Meanwhile, joint director, ICAR Nagaland Centre exhorted the youth about poultry farming on commercial basis. Farmers were also provided with different inputs such as Vanaraja chicks, feed and medicine, etc. for starting the backyard poultry unit at their homes.
Dr. Mahak Singh, Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie and Dr. R Talimoa Mollier from ICAR Nagaland centre delivered the lectures and demonstartions to the participants.
