Abir Chatterjee will be starring in Anik Dutta’s upcoming film, ‘Aparajito’. Abir will be seen in a titular role, paying tribute to Satyajit Ray on his birth centenary.
Anik said, “Aparajito was the second film of the Apu trilogy. But my film Aparajito is different. It is inspired by the making of ‘Pather Panchali’ and not a biopic on Satyajit Ray. In my film, a character called Aparajito Ray, aka Apu, (played by Abir Chatterjee) makes a film called Pather Podaboli. It captures the hurdles he faces and whether he can finally achieve his dream. What I am trying to convey through this film is how one should dare to dream and believe that you can achieve our dreams too. Only then, your dreams will come true.”
He also took permission from Satyajit Roy’s son, Sandip Ray, before making the film. Anik Added, “As it is I am not making a biopic on Ray as that would be too much. The research work of the film is complete and the film is at its pre-production level. Everything has been put on hold now, as the situation is grim outside. Because this is a period film, we need to do a lot of pre-production before the film goes on the floor. We will start our work once the situation gets better.”
The filmmaker revealed he has cast Abir Chatterjee as Aparajito Ray because of his physical appearance, height, and looks.
“We thought of starting the film in September, as we want to capture that time of the year when we can get kash phool. It is integral to the film. Hope things will be better by then,” said Anik.
