“Honesty and hard work are the two virtues I swear by. I’ve never been complacent about my career,” says Actor-MP Mimi Chakraborty. She has been voted the Calcutta Times Most Desirable Woman 2020. While films still remain her mainstay, Mimi has successfully established a political career, one that, by her own admission, is a bigger responsibility to shoulder. The journey from Jalpaiguri to Kolkata hasn’t been easy. But she believes destiny favours a hard worker.
She said, “The feeling of one’s hard work getting recognised is incomparable. I am thankful to Calcutta Times and my fans for this honour. It is heartening to know that people find you desirable. As an artiste, I work towards entertaining and making the audience happy — through my films, music and performances. It’s the best feeling when hard work is rewarded”, sharing her feelings after being voted the Calcutta Times Most Desirable Woman of 2020.
She believes a woman who empowers other women is incredibly powerful and desirable.
When asked about her experience been in the industry, she said, “I am an outsider. I have had my share of struggles but I’d be lying if I said I never felt welcomed. Coming from a small town and trying to break into the entertainment industry wasn’t easy. People would mock the way I look, my diction and my tomboyish attitude. But, over years, the industry and my audience accepted me for what I am. I am truly grateful for that.”
She added, “I’m happy but I am not content. Whatever I’ve achieved, that was yesterday. Today is a new day and there’s a lot more to achieve.”
