It’s no secret that Mumtaz and Shammi Kapoor were in a relationship at one point. They did movies like Valah Kya Baat Hai (1962) and Brahmachari (1968) together but the romance was not meant to last for long. Shammi marries Neela Devi and Mumtaz marries businessman Mayur Madhvani.
In a recent interview, the veteran actress, who dominated Bollywood in the nineteen-sixties and ’70s, shared some small print of her relationship with Shammi and said that she wanted to marry him but was just a teenager then and was scared. The next step in their relationship is due to their age difference and ambition to become someone in the film business. She also introduced that it was for exceptional and Neela was once a top match for Shammi. She also said that if she married Shammi, there would have been no trouble between them if she returned.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Mumtaz said, “I loved him tremendously. I believe Shammiji additionally loved me a lot. I felt unhappy that I couldn’t marry him. I was solely around 17. He was 18 years older than me. It used to be too early for me to get married. We separated with understanding. He was once very sweet and caring toward me. But you can’t battle destiny. Honestly, had I obtained married, it wouldn’t have worked. Because I’d have constantly held a remorseful about in my heart. I wanted to act. I desired to attain something. “
Mumtaz also said that the Kapoors were specific about their daughters-in-law not working in films now and cited this as one of the reasons for not taking the next step in their relationship.
“The Kapoor family was strict about their arms not working in films now,” says Mumtaz.
Praising Shammi’s second wife, Mumtaz said, “Shammiji is such a beauty, married to a beauty. Neela Deviji is one such sweetheart. He accepted her innocently and treated her very well.
“Momtaz made her acting debut in Bollywood with the film Sone Ki Chidiya (1958) at the age of eleven. She became one of the most popular female actors in the Hindi film industry. Her films Do Raste, Bandhan and Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969), Sacha Ghutha (1970) and Khilona (1970) were massive hits and made her an unparalleled celebrity in the Hindi film industry.
