Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Moves Delhi High Court Over Misuse of Name, Images, and AI-Generated Obscene Content

New Delhi, September 9 — Bollywood actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has filed a suit in the Delhi High Court seeking protection of her personality and publicity rights, following the circulation of unauthorised merchandise and AI-generated morphed images falsely attributed to her. The petition highlights growing concerns over the misuse of celebrity identities in digital spaces, particularly through artificial intelligence and fraudulent online platforms.

Appearing before Justice Tejas Karia, senior advocate Sandeep Sethi, representing Rai, pointed out that several websites have been using her name and likeness without consent to sell merchandise and promote misleading content. One such website, aishwaryaworld.com, falsely claims to be the “one and only authorised and official website” of the actor, despite having no affiliation with her.

The suit also flagged disturbing instances of AI-generated intimate images being circulated online, which Rai has categorically denied authorising. Sethi described these visuals as “completely unreal,” stating that her name and likeness were being exploited “to satisfy someone’s sexual desires,” and that such actions were “very unfortunate”.

The court was informed of additional fraudulent entities, including one named Aishwarya Nation Wealth, which falsely lists Rai as its chairperson. The actor has denied any association with the group or knowledge of its activities. The petition also named unknown individuals—referred to as “John Does”—who are allegedly collecting money by misusing her identity.

Justice Karia orally directed Google’s counsel to assist in taking down the infringing links listed in the suit and indicated that injunction orders would be passed to prevent further misuse of Rai’s name, images, and persona. The matter has been listed for further proceedings before the joint registrar on November 7 and before the court on January 15, 2026.

This legal action underscores the urgent need for regulatory safeguards against the misuse of AI-generated content and celebrity identities, especially as digital platforms continue to evolve.
