September 22, 2025 Mumbai — Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan have officially begun shooting for acclaimed director Priyadarshan’s 98th film, Haiwaan, marking their reunion after 17 years. The film is currently in production, with approximately 40% of the shoot completed, including outdoor schedules in Kochi, Vagamon, and Ooty.
Produced by KVN Productions in association with Thespian Films, Haiwaan is a Hindi-language thriller inspired by Priyadarshan’s 2016 Malayalam film Oppam. The project is jointly backed by Venkat K. Narayana and Shailaja Fenn and is slated for a theatrical release in 2026.
Behind-the-scenes images released from the sets show Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan engaged in intense filming alongside Priyadarshan, who is known for his successful collaborations with both actors. The trio has previously delivered iconic hits such as Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Main Khiladi Tu Anari.
The film also features Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar in pivotal roles. Saiyami expressed her excitement about joining the cast, stating, “Walking onto the set of Haiwaan has been overwhelming in the most beautiful way. I still remember watching Akshay sir redefine action and laughing endlessly at Saif sir’s comic timing. To now share the screen with them is surreal.”
Adding to the buzz, director Priyadarshan confirmed that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will make a special cameo appearance in the film. While details of his role remain under wraps, the announcement has further heightened anticipation among fans.
Akshay Kumar, who is also working on Priyadarshan’s upcoming horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, reportedly stepped into Haiwaan after several actors declined the antagonist role. Priyadarshan shared, “Akshay said yes when I thought the film wouldn’t get made. His trust and enthusiasm gave the project new life.”
With its star-studded cast, nostalgic reunions, and scenic shoot locations, Haiwaan is shaping up to be one of the most awaited releases of 2026.
