Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan reunite in Anees Bazmee’s next comedy

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is confirmed to star in Anees Bazmee’s next directorial venture, with Vidya Balan joining as one of the leading ladies. This development brings together Kumar and Balan after six years, their last collaboration being the 2019 space drama Mission Mangal.

The project also marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee after a gap of nearly 14 years. The duo last worked together in Thank You (2011), following successful collaborations in Singh Is Kinng (2008) and Welcome (2007). Bazmee has confirmed that the upcoming film will be a comedy, with the script nearing completion and production expected to begin in early 2026.

Industry sources reveal that Vidya Balan was a unanimous choice for the role. Her past screen chemistry with Akshay Kumar in films such as Heyy Babyy (2007), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), and Mission Mangal has been widely appreciated. Off-screen, the two actors share a strong rapport, which reportedly made the casting decision straightforward.

The film’s narrative will feature two female leads, with Vidya Balan confirmed as one of them. Details about the second actress and the storyline remain under wraps, though the project is expected to blend Bazmee’s signature comic style with contemporary themes. Akshay Kumar’s current slate includes multiple high-profile projects, including Hera Pheri 3 and Sky Force. Vidya Balan, meanwhile, continues to balance mainstream cinema with critically acclaimed performances, making this reunion a significant highlight for Bollywood audiences.
