Alia Bhatt’s 2025: A Year of Archival Reverence, Indian Silhouettes & Gucci Glam

Her dialogue between memory and modernity reached its emotional peak at the re-release screening of Umrao Jaan in Mumbai. Honouring Rekha’s iconic style, Bhatt reinterpreted a Silsila-inspired look in a custom Tarun Tahiliani sari—romantic yet restrained. A fluted blouse with a raffia-detailed collar introduced unexpected texture. Accessories carried symbolism: feather-shaped diamond Plume earrings nodding to Rekha’s shoulder-dusters, a vintage watch from Artndantiques, a custom pink Meera Mahadevia bag, and Tiesta shoes. With minimal makeup, a micro bindi, and softly parted hair, Bhatt let nostalgia take centre stage. In 2025, Alia Bhatt’s fashion choices mapped a confident, deliberate journey—one that moved seamlessly between Indian craft, archival Western fashion, and contemporary red-carpet drama. From Sabyasachi saris and Tarun Tahiliani nostalgia to rare Gucci and Hervé Léger archives, Bhatt embraced fashion as storytelling rather than spectacle.

She opened the year at Sabyasachi’s 25-year celebrations in the designer’s most iconic silhouette—the sari. Eschewing maximalism, Bhatt let restraint speak. The sari became a canvas, while a richly bejewelled blouse carried the drama. Shoulder-grazing champagne diamond earrings, bare skin, and a decisive sweep of kohl underscored her precision-driven aesthetic.

Her return to Sabyasachi at Aadar Jain’s wedding reaffirmed the sari as her comfort clothing. This time, she chose a pastel pink piece from the brand’s 2024 heritage collection, hand-beaded with sequins that shimmered softly. A satin blouse with a deep-cut back stole the spotlight, complemented by a braided updo, solitaire earrings, and an ornate bridal couture necklace—anchoring the look in old-world grandeur.

Bhatt also balanced cultures as Gucci’s first-ever Indian Global Brand Ambassador. She stepped out in a sari-inspired drape, nude-hued and fully sequinned with the house’s GG monogram. Encrusted with Swarovski crystals, the ensemble marked Gucci’s first formal interpretation of the Indian sari silhouette. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, it stood as both a fashion milestone and a nod to Indian heritage reframed through a global luxury lens.
