“Gangubai Kathiawaadi”, the upcoming film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali is all set to release this month. In an interview, Sanjay said that for the first time when Alia heard about the narration of Gangubai Kathiawadi she “picked her bag and ran out of my office”. He also said that she told Bhansali Productions CEO Prerna Singh that they will have to look for another actor.
The story of Gangubai Kathiawadi revolves around a real-life sex worker, who is the head of a brothel and a political leader of Kamathipura, the red light district in Mumbai. The film is about the journey of Gangubai’s life.
“The first time she heard the narration; she took her bag and ran out of my office. She was astonished about the kind of role I offered her. I told my CEO Prerna like listen, I think we have to look out for any other actress. Because this… Well, I wanted her to play it,” Sanjay said in an interview.
In the interview, Sanjay Leela Bhansali also revealed that Alia called him up and wanted to meet him to take up the role.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawad’i will be released in theatres on February 25, 2021. The trailer has already been released. Recently, two tracks came out from the film Dholida and Jab Saiyaan. Ajay Devgan also features as real-life mafia don Karim Lala in this film.
