In an interview with Screen on his birthday today, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened up about fake friendships and relationships in the film industry.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui always speaks his mind – whether he is talking about being an outsider in the film industry or how Bollywood works even for those who have got a little bit of popularity and work.
In a recent interview for Screen’s Creators x Creators segment, birthday boy Nawazuddin opened up about his relationships in the industry, fake friendships and the casting of untrained actors in films while good actors only get ‘character or supporting’ roles.
Nawazuddin emphasised that there are no real relationships in Hindi cinema and that he has friends from the time when he was struggling to make a mark in films. Siddiqui feels there are “no friendships” in the industry.
“With time, today there is one person and tomorrow there will be someone else. It happens based on need or benefit. The friendships I have in my life are from the old times, not here,” he said. “This happens because every actor here has an insecurity, so there is no strong friendship or loyalty towards each other. The industry is not strong and united in that way.
There is a club that stays separate, they are not together,” the 50-year-old actor added. Nawazuddin Siddiqui also complained that actors cast in films are not trained and do not suit the demands of the role. “An actor who is not so convincing… is made to act in a certain way, this happens only in our industry.
Other industries only need professional and trained actors, they don’t let them come otherwise.” He concluded, “The audience gets used to that actor’s bad acting and then when we compare his first film and the 15th film, we feel that his acting is getting better in comparison.
If you took any deserving actor in those 15 films, that actor would have been something else. Deserving and great actors are cast in supporting roles, this makes me angry.” On the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui was last seen in the Zee5 film Costao, directed by Sezal Shah. The actor has Raat Akeli Hai 2 and Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups in the pipeline.
