Animal to release on Netflix on January 26 with theatrical cut

Netflix is gearing up to release the extended cut of Ranbir Kapoor’s movie “Animal” as the legal dispute between co-producers CINE 1 Studios and T-Series is settled.

The Delhi High Court was informed of the agreement, putting an end to the alleged breach of contract. CINE 1 Studios initially tried to delay the OTT launch citing violations related to equal ownership and certain rights.

Ahead of the movie’s theatrical release, it was reported that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had asked the makers to delete close-up shots of intimate scenes between the characters played by Ranbir and Tripti Dimri. It will be interesting to see what will be included in the Netflix version as Netflix releases usually do not rely on CBFC certification. The movie starts streaming on January 26.

The resolution allows Netflix to show extended versions, similar to its release strategy with other Bollywood films.
