At Cannes, Aishwarya Rai dazzles in black

Following her stunning appearance on Day 1 of Cannes, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s second ensemble at the esteemed event left fans in awe. In a black strapless gown embellished with sequins, the world-renowned figure evoked classic Hollywood charm for her second spectacular presentation. With a Gaurav Gupta design and a large silver-beige patterned cloak, the “Guru” star embodied classic Hollywood style. Micro-glass crystals are used to add dimension and light to the hand-embroidered abstract representation of the universe in silver, gold, charcoal, and black. A Sanskrit ‘shlok’ from the Bhagavad Gita was engraved on the actor’s cloak, which garnered notice despite her beautiful appearance.

“Although you are free to do as you like, you are not entitled to the results of your actions. In Sanskrit, “shlok” means “Let neither your attachment to inaction nor the rewards of action be your motivation.” The actor’s video of herself and her daughter walking hand in hand has gone viral in addition to her appearance. Amidst tremendous excitement, Aishwarya and Aaradhya twinned in black as they exited the hotel. Although many saw Aishwarya’s sindoor from her first red carpet appearance at Cannes 2025 as a symbolic allusion to India’s anti-terrorism stance, her most recent ensemble feels like a sincere homage to her roots and native country.
