Badshah told he launched his own music channel after feud with MTV, ventured into pharmaceutical and liquor business: ‘I was robbed’

Badshah, who started his career with rapper Honey Singh, has become a brand in his own right in the last few years. While he is popular for his singing, rapping and musical skills, Badshah is also interested in creating different revenue sources. In a recent interview, the rapper revealed several businesses that he has tried to set up over the years – from a pharmaceutical brand to alcoholic beverages. He also recalled how he launched his own TV channel after a tiff with MTV hurt his finances.
In a conversation with The Lallantop, Badshah listed out the many businesses he has started over the years. He said that, “I had a fight with MTV over placements. So I took it as a result of my ego and decided to start my own television channel that would beat MTV. It was called Aho. We beat them in terms of TRPs, but I got looted. We changed the game, we started playing independent songs. We reached out to regional kids, we played their songs. That increased our ratings. But we had to shut it down.”
The rapper further said, “I have also sold medicines. A friend suggested me that there is a good earning in the medicine business, I thought I would try it too. We sold paracetamol, antibiotics under our own brand. It was called Aps Life. But I did not earn anything from it. So we closed that too.”
The rapper also owns a clothing line, a beer brand and several restaurants and clubs. He said, “I own several clubs and restaurants in Delhi and Mumbai. In Chandigarh, I own a restaurant called Civil. I also have a lounge there. I also have a beer brand, which sells mostly in North India. It’s a great beer. I don’t drink, but I have tasted all of them.”
Explaining the reason behind experimenting with so many business ideas, Badshah said, “I am quite interested in creating other revenue streams apart from music. I want to see how far I can take it and how much I can leverage my brand.” He added, “I also have a production house and a clothing line.”
