‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ Skips Theatres: Makers Opt for Direct OTT Release Amid India-Pak Tensions

The upcoming Bollywood film Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, was originally set for a theatrical release on May 9. However, citing heightened security concerns following recent geopolitical developments, the makers have decided to release the film directly on Prime Video on May 16.

The decision comes in light of heightened security drills across India following Operation Sindoor, a military response to recent geopolitical developments. The film’s production house, Maddock Films, released an official statement emphasizing that “the spirit of the nation comes first!”.

About the Film

Set in Varanasi, Bhool Chuk Maaf follows Ranjan (Rajkummar Rao), a man stuck in a time loop, waking up every day on the morning of his Haldi ceremony. The film is directed by Karan Sharma and features veteran actors Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, and Raghubir Yadav in crucial roles.

Industry Impact

The cancellation of press screenings and the shift to OTT reflect growing concerns over public safety and potential disruptions. While fans were eager to experience the film in theatres, the makers have prioritized national security over box office numbers.
