Bollywood Unites to Celebrate Shah Rukh Khan’s First National Film Award for ‘Jawan’

Mumbai, August 2: In a landmark moment for Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan has been awarded his first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan. The recognition, announced at the 71st National Film Awards, marks a significant milestone in Khan’s illustrious 33-year career.

The announcement sparked an outpouring of admiration and congratulatory messages from across the film industry. Celebrities including Kajol, Farah Khan, Anil Kapoor, AR Rahman, Ananya Panday, and Sanya Malhotra took to social media to express their joy and pride in Khan’s achievement.

Kajol, Khan’s long-time co-star, shared a poster of Jawan on Instagram, writing, “Congratulations on your big win @iamsrk!” Farah Khan, who has directed Khan in several films, posted a heartfelt message: “This time, the shiddat se koshish really came through.” Music maestro AR Rahman simply called him a “Legend,” while Anil Kapoor praised the performance as “well deserved”.

Director Atlee, who helmed Jawan, also shared an emotional tribute, thanking Khan for trusting him and calling the film his “first love letter” to the superstar.

Khan responded with characteristic humility, posting a video message thanking the jury, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, his team, and fans. “This award is not just about achievement. It’s a reminder that what I do matters,” he said. He added, “Half a hug to everyone today… just keep the popcorn ready. I’ll be back on screen soon — with one hand, ready,” referencing a recent injury.

The award was presented by Ashutosh Gowariker, director of Swades, a film widely regarded as one of Khan’s finest performances but notably overlooked at the National Awards in 2004. Fans celebrated the moment as a “full circle” achievement.

Jawan, which features Khan in a double role, was both a critical and commercial success, further cementing his resurgence following Pathaan and Dunki. The film also stars Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani, and Sanya Malhotra, and was praised for its blend of action, emotion, and social commentary.

Khan shares the Best Actor honour with Vikrant Massey, recognized for his role in 12th Fail. The dual win highlights the diversity and depth of talent in contemporary Indian cinema.
