Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang is promoted to the position of State Councillor.

A high-level mechanism to discuss the boundary issue and strengthen ties between the two nations, the Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang has been promoted to the rank of State Councillor, putting him in line for his likely appointment to the position of China’s Special Representative for India-China Boundary Talks.

The National People’s Congress (NPC), the Chinese parliament, which approved Qin’s appointment as foreign minister and promoted him to the status of State Councillor, a high-ranking position within the State Council or the central cabinet, the Chinese government’s executive branch, during its annual session on Sunday.

In December, Qin, 56, succeeded as the new foreign minister.
