Actor and filmmaker Dev Patel is set to direct, write, and star in his second feature film, The Peasant. This medieval revenge thriller is described as a blend of Braveheart, John Wick, and King Arthur, set in 1300s feudal India. The story follows a shepherd who embarks on a rage-fueled campaign against mercenary knights who ravaged his community, revealing himself to be more than he seems.
The film is backed by Fifth Season and Thunder Road Pictures, marking Patel’s second collaboration with Thunder Road after his directorial debut, Monkey Man. Originally envisioned with an Italian backdrop, Patel reimagined the setting to medieval India, adding a mystical and vibrant touch.
The Peasant has already generated buzz, landing on the 2023 Black List of Hollywood’s most sought-after unproduced scripts. Producers are eyeing the potential for the film to launch a new action franchise. Patel’s move into this genre follows the success of Monkey Man, which earned widespread acclaim upon its release.
