Dhanush’s Production House Files Rs 1 Crore Suit Against Nayanthara Over Copyright Dispute

Dhanush’s production company, Wunderbar Films Private Limited, has filed a civil suit seeking Rs 1 crore in damages and a permanent injunction against the use of behind-the-scenes (BTS) visuals from the Tamil movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The company claims the footage was used without permission.

The affidavit accuses Nayanthara’s husband, Vignesh Shivan, of “unprofessional behavior” during the film’s production, alleging he prioritized Nayanthara’s performance over other cast members. The legal dispute became public in November 2024 when Nayanthara shared an open letter criticizing Dhanush for denying permission to use a three-second clip, despite repeated requests over two years.

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy recently dismissed an interim injunction application to halt the documentary’s release, as it had already premiered on November 18, 2024. Dhanush has chosen to pursue the main civil suit, maintaining his legal stance without making public comments. The case highlights ongoing tensions between the parties as it moves forward in court.
