As the romantic comedy ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ celebrates its 15th anniversary, filmmakers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa have recalled how Emma Stone secured the role of Hannah Weaver through a memorable audition.
In an interview with People, the directors said Stone’s confidence and natural performance immediately stood out. Ficarra revealed that it was initially difficult to arrange an audition with Stone, who was living in New York at the time. However, once she auditioned, the filmmakers were impressed by her talent and presence.
Ficarra and Requa later paired Stone with Ryan Gosling for a chemistry read along with several other actresses. While many performers delivered strong auditions, the directors noticed that some became nervous when interacting with Gosling. Stone, however, remained confident and unaffected.
The filmmakers said her ability to hold her own during the audition made her the clear choice for the role. Her performance as Hannah, a young law student who develops a relationship with Gosling’s character Jacob, became one of the memorable elements of the 2011 film.
Over the years, ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ has remained popular among audiences for its ensemble cast, humour, and emotional storytelling.
