Filmmaker Karan Johar on Bollywood Vs South: ‘There is no competition between two, we should grow together’

Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is all set to launch his next domestic production “Jug Jugg Jeyoo”, says that although in the recent past, three South Indian films have done significant business at the container business nationwide, there is no competition or appreciation between Hindi and South cinema. The filmmaker was present on Sunday with the cast and crew for the trailer launch of his upcoming film.

During the interplay with the media, he would be urged if he felt reasonable opposition in the container workplace after the current success of South Indian films. Says Johar: “There is no opposition between Hindi and southern cinema. I was one of these filmmakers who introduced ‘Baahubali’ because I believe in the power of cinema’s past language.

“There is no competition between these two industries, how can it be? Instead, we need to develop together. Competing will not serve the essential purpose, that is, to undertake great initiatives as a film industry.”

The trailer launch tournament was inspired by Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Varun Dhawan, Neetu Kapoor, Manish Paul, film director Raj Mehta, Viacom 18’s Ajit Andhare, Dharma Productions’ Apurva Mehta and Johar.

Before introducing the trailer to the media attendees, Johar emphasized the phrase ‘Hindi movie trailer’ and was then prompted for the idea behind highlighting the language. “When movies like ‘RRR’, ‘Pushp’, ‘KGF’ were outstanding commercial ventures and the target market cherished those films, we proudly say that it is a success of Indian cinema,” Johar said.

“Their success put our Indian cinema at a higher standard. Be it Prashanth Neel or Rajamouli sir, they in a way tried to prove the reality that our stage of cinema may want to be that great!” the filmmaker added.

Johar continued: “So when for the duration of the trailer launch of my movie I special the movie as a ‘Hindi film’ it is a characteristic of technicality; our Hindi movie ‘Gangubai’ did well, state-of-the-art launched ‘Bhool Bhulaiya 2’ has acquired an excellent opening, so as a maker of the film, we want out film additionally to come on that list of successful films.”

South motion pictures make money in the North Indian market, he said, making it the ‘best crossover’ commercial venture for the film industry.

“When the South has done extensive commercial ventures in the North, it is a first-class crossover. It is no longer up to us to get a film into the competition or get an Oscar, we favor making Indian cinema as it has been proven time and again.”

Adding to this, Varun Dhawan said: “Actually, that’s the most important reason for cinema, to bring you together. s through movies. So when these things are seen it means team spirit between us.
