Fulbari’s Chunavati temple theft case: One more accused arrested, cash recovered

Phulbari, Feb 28: The NJP police have arrested one more person in connection with the theft at the Maa Shakambhari Chandi temple in Fulbari’s Chunavati area. The accused has been identified as Biraj Barman.

The incident took place late Monday night when miscreants broke the iron gate of the temple, looted the donation box, stole the idol’s jewellery and fled with several thousand rupees in cash.

An investigation was launched following a written complaint at the NJP police station, following which Noor Alam and Rana Dutta were arrested on Wednesday night. Cash and several stolen jewellery were recovered from them.

After further interrogation, the police arrested Biraj Barman from Fulbari’s West Dhantala area on Friday morning and recovered Rs 2,000 in cash from him. The arrested person was produced in the Jalpaiguri District Court on Friday.

The police are continuing to investigate the case.
