‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’: Alia Bhatt and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali resumes Kamathipura night shoot.

After a 6-month covid-induced break, Bollywood star Alia Bhatt has resumed work on director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.

The director, who put the film on hold due to the lockdown, turned up the limelights and got the cameras rolling once again at a Mumbai studio. The team has constructed a huge set that best replicates Kamathipura. According to reports on Mid Day, the team picked up where they left off to maintain continuity to the shoot.

The makers were forced to pull down a portion of the elaborate sets to prevent damages during the monsoon, but latest reports state that the Kamathipura section was left untouched. The team has resumed the shoot with an extensive night schedule. Alia reportedly begins her shoot late evenings and continues filming till the wee hours of the morning.

The source added that a song sequence was shot earlier and there’s more to come. “A 50-member team, including the cast, has been hand-picked for this schedule that will see Sanjay sir wrap up Alia’s scenes. While television actor Shantanu Maheshwari had filmed his song before the lockdown, the shoot of two more tracks is on the cards,” the source added. Gangubai Kathiawadi is adapted from one of the chapters from Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It tells the story of the madam of a brothel owner who had gangsters as her clients.
