Google launches Health Connect in beta version

American technology giant Google launched the Health Connect app on Monday. Aimed at health and fitness enthusiasts, the app allows users to connect with different fitness apps to get holistic health insights in a single app. Google Health Connect is currently in testing and its beta version is available for download on the Google Play Store.

In collaboration with Samsung Google has developed the Health Connect app. Google says the app will help users centralize the management of all their fitness apps. Health Connect enables across Android devices users to share health and fitness data. In order to get credit in an app, users can also share the data of a workout they have done in a different app with the Health Connect app.

For example, with the Health Connect app, Android users will be able to sync and get credit for their Peloton workouts in apps like Oura, WeightWatchers, MyFitnessPal, and Lifesum. Through a single integration with Health Connect, Peloton members will have the option to share their workout stats across the ecosystem of apps they use to support their overall wellness.

According to Google, there are currently more than ten health, fitness and wellness apps that are compatible for integration with the platform. Some of them are Oura, Peloton, MyFitnessPal, Fitbit, Samsung Health and many more.

It simplifies connectivity between your apps while providing centralized privacy control for users. Earlier, users had to navigate through various apps to manage data permissions. With Health Connect, users can easily manage permissions in a single place, with granular control to see which apps have data access at any given time. Once allowed, the app can access new data and data from the last 30 days.

Google said in a blog post”Health Connect provides a standardized data schema which supports 40+ data types across 6 categories. Through the first wave of integrations, we have seen Health Connect provide many key benefits to developers.” .
