‘I was not happy when Karan Johar sent Jigra to Alia Bhatt’, told Vasan Bala: ‘I asked Karan why did you do this?’

Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer Zigza will release in theatres on October 11. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
Zirgra starring Alia Bhatt features Alia Bhatt in a unique role, in which she plays the role of protector of her younger brother Vedang Raina. In a recent interview, director Vasan Bala shared that he did not plan to have Alia Bhatt a part of this film when he was discussing it with producer Karan Johar and Karan was not happy when Karan sent Vasan’s rough draft to Alia. Vasan said that his “kacha-pakka e-mail” reached Alia’s inbox and she was not ready for it.
Speaking to Tried and Refused Productions, Alia said that Vasan and Karan had been talking to each other after Vasan’s Monica O My Darling and when Vasan started working on this film, they were looking for the next thing to work with. As Alia said that Vasan probably had an idea of who he wanted to do the film with, the director said, “No.” She then added, “I wrote a very rough email, stream of consciousness thoughts… sent it to Karan and 6-7 hours later, he called saying I had already sent it to Alia and I wasn’t really happy with it.”
Vasan then revealed that he was not happy with Karan’s move as he wanted to check the script and correct any mistakes before sending it to Alia. “I thought I would have at least done some spell check, grammar check, hygiene check, written some really nice hero entries… That email was sent and I asked Karan ‘Why did you do that?’ He said ‘No, no that’s how it works.’ Then he said we’ll meet in a few days,” he recalled. Alia added that she “reacted to the content when I read the first part” and was very curious to know what happens next and thus, she pursued Vasan for the rest of the script for a month.
