Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan has opened up about suffering from hearing and speech problems after contracting jaundice at birth, which reached his brain stem.
Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan faced a lot of criticism after the release of his debut film Nadaniyaan. Trolls started judging him, but very few people know about his speech problem. In a recent interaction, Ibrahim opened up about having a speech problem since childhood and revealed that he still has to work ‘a lot’ on it.
During an interview with GQ, Ibrahim revealed that a severe case of jaundice at birth affected his speech and hearing abilities. He explained, “Soon after I was born, I got very bad jaundice and it went straight to my brain stem. My hearing ability was greatly reduced and it affected my speech.”
He revealed that he has worked a lot over the last few years to improve his speech and continues to do so, adding, “My speech is something I have had to work hard on since childhood with the help of coaches and therapists.
It’s not perfect; I’m still working hard on it.” Despite his speech challenges, Ibrahim’s parents did not hesitate to send him to boarding school in England. The actor admitted that although it was difficult to adjust initially, the experience helped him grow a lot as a person.
He added, “Being Indian, it was difficult to adjust, but I had the best four years of my life. I played sports, made new friends and learned a lot. My speech problem was very bad at that time, and the move put me in a new place where I had to live.” Conscious about not sounding like a ‘rich boy’, Ibrahim clarified that he had to deal with many things on his own.
He said, “I don’t want to sound like the rich kids, but when you are 14 and on your own, boarding school is not easy. It is very strict. Still, it shaped my character and changed my outlook towards life.” Ibrahim is the eldest son of Saif Ali Khan. Before marrying Kareena Kapoor, Saif was married to Amrita Singh from 1991 to 2004.
They had two children – Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim. After Saif and Amrita separated, Saif married Kareena and they have two sons – Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan.
