Imtiaz Ali’s Romantic Drama Gains Momentum Through Positive Word of Mouth

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s latest romantic drama, Main Vaapas Aaunga, has emerged as a surprise box-office success, recording its highest single-day collection on its second Sunday. According to industry estimates, the film earned Rs 5.75 crore nett on Sunday, surpassing its first Sunday collection and taking its total India gross earnings to Rs 29 crore.

Released on June 19, the film opened to modest numbers but steadily gained momentum through strong word of mouth and positive audience reactions. The growth has been particularly impressive during its second week, with collections rising significantly over the weekend. Exhibitors in several regions reportedly added extra screenings to accommodate increasing demand from moviegoers.

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film features Sharvari, Vedang Raina, Diljit Dosanjh and Naseeruddin Shah in key roles. The story revolves around a 95-year-old man who suffers a stroke while attempting to travel to Pakistan, prompting his grandson to uncover memories from the pre-Partition era and help him find closure.

Despite facing competition from the recently released Cocktail 2, the film has continued to attract audiences. Reacting to the film’s strong performance, Imtiaz Ali expressed gratitude to viewers, crediting the success to positive word of mouth and audience support.

The filmmaker also revealed that several members of the film industry, including directors and actors, reached out with messages of encouragement and appreciation following the film’s release, further reinforcing the positive reception it has received.
