The Hindi film Chhaava, which is based on the life of Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Sambhaji, will not be subject to taxes in the state of Goa, according to a government announcement. On February 14, the biographical drama, which starred Vicky Kaushal as the renowned Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, was released in theaters. The news was made Wednesday night by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in a post on X. He claimed that people are inspired by Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s sacrifice.
“I am pleased to share that the film ‘Chhaava,’ which tells the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s life and sacrifices, will be exempt from taxes in Goa,” Sawant stated in the post. “The movie showcases the bravery and valor of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj for God, country, and righteousness, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal, and aims to bring our glorious history to the forefront. The dedication of the second Chhatrapati of Hindavi Swarajya, who courageously battled against the Moghuls and the Portuguese, serves as an inspiration for us all,” he continued.
Notably, on Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav declared that the film would be exempt from taxes in his state. The announcements made by both states coincided with the 395th birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha empire and the father of Chhatrapati Sambhaji. The movie, which stars Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna, is helmed by director Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films.
