India selects survival thriller ‘2018’ for best international film race

2018: Everyone is a Hero is India’s official entry to the Academy Awards 2024, announced the Film Federation of India.

Speaking at a press conference, filmmaker Girish Kasarvalli, chairman of the selection committee, announced that the Malayalam film has been selected for its themes relevant to climate change and human suffering with what is understood as development in the society

FFI president Ravi Kottarakara said a 16-member selection committee headed by Kasaravalli has seen the film.

22 films including Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway (Hindi), Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (Hindi), The Kerala Story (Hindi), Balagam (Telugu), Vaalvi (Marathi), Baaplyok (Marathi) and August 16, 1947 (Tamil). Judd Antony Joseph’s Malayalam movies were considered before the selection.

Starring Tovino Thomas, Kunchko Boban, Tanvi Ram and Aparna Balamurali, the film revolves around the 2018 floods that wreaked havoc in Kerala.
