Indian 2 Box Office Collection Day 1: Kamal Haasan’s film takes bumper opening in South, disappointing performance in Hindi, earnings..

‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan’s latest film, the long-delayed Indian 2, finally released in theaters across India on Friday. Although the film opened strongly at the box office, especially in the state of Tamil Nadu, it received negative response from critics and audiences, which may be a cause for concern.According to industry tracker Saknilak, Indian 2 grossed Rs 26 crore across India on its first day of release, of which Rs 17 crore came from the Tamil version, Rs 7.9 crore from the Telugu version Rs 1.1 crore from the Hindi version.
Indian 2’s Rs 26 crore debut is slightly lower than the Rs 28 crore collection that Kamal Haasan’s last film, the blockbuster Vikram, earned on its opening day in 2022. But unlike Indian 2, Vikram received positive reviews, and rose to stardom. – Highest grossing film with lifetime global collections of over Rs 430 crore worldwide. Before this, Kamal Haasan last starred in the 2018 film Vishwaroopam II, which underperformed at the box office.
Indian 2 is the sequel to director Shankar’s classic 1996 film Indian, which also starred Urmila Matondkar and Manisha Koirala. A cautious action film in which Kamal Haasan played the now-iconic character Senapati, the Indian was acclaimed. He reprized his role in the sequel, the production of which was difficult and resulted in the loss of some crew members’ lives. The film has been unanimously condemned, casting a shadow over the upcoming Indian 3.
According to Sacknilk, the overall occupancy for the Tamil version of Indian 2 was 55%, with most of the interest coming from night shows. Chennai recorded 68% occupancy. Hindi occupancy was negligible at 11%, with Mumbai and Delhi-NCR recording occupancy of 12.5% and 8% respectively. The Telugu version of the film performed better with 58% occupancy.Indian 2 has been released in Hindi as Hindustani 2 and in Telugu as Bharatiyadu 2. Kamal Haasan was recently seen in the film Kalki 2898 AD, which has grossed over Rs 900 crore globally. He also has Thug Life in the pipeline.
