Jackie Chan Criticizes CGI Stunts, Says They Lack Realism

Action legend Jackie Chan has voiced his concerns over the growing reliance on computer-generated imagery (CGI) stunts in modern cinema, calling it a “double-edged sword” that diminishes the sense of reality in films.

Speaking about the evolution of action sequences, Chan highlighted how CGI and visual effects have revolutionized filmmaking but, in his view, also stripped away the raw authenticity that traditional stunt work offers. Known for performing his own breathtaking stunts throughout his career, Chan emphasized that the physicality and risks involved in real-life action sequences create a unique cinematic experience that CGI cannot replicate.

While acknowledging the advantages of CGI in enhancing large-scale action scenes, Chan stressed that audiences often struggle to connect emotionally with overly artificial visuals. “When you watch a movie full of CGI, sometimes you feel the action isn’t real,” he said, expressing his belief that practical stunt work remains a key factor in delivering compelling action films.

Fans and filmmakers alike have responded to Chan’s remarks, with many agreeing that practical effects and traditional stunt work remain an invaluable part of action filmmaking, even in an era dominated by digital technology.
