James Gunn told There’s ‘Zero Truth’ About Warner Bros. Shortening ‘Superman’ Runtime: ‘They Couldn’t Even If They Wanted To’

James Gunn revealed the truth about “Superman’s” runtime.

On an Instagram thread, a user asked the DC Studios head if the two-hour and nine-minute runtime was accurate. Gunn responded that the rumored time was absolutely correct.

“Runtime including credits/post credits is 2 hours and 9 minutes,” Gunn responded.

Gunn was then asked about another rumored topic: whether or not Warner Bros. asked him to shorten the film. Gunn once again offered his opinion.

“There’s absolutely no truth to this,” he wrote. “And they couldn’t even if they wanted to. This is a DC Studios movie.”

“Superman,” previously titled “Superman: Legacy,” is written and directed by Gunn. David Corenswet plays the Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane.

Nicholas Hoult plays the film’s villain, the megalomaniac super-genius Lex Luthor. Other members of the cast include Skyler Gisondo as journalist Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.

Gunn’s directorial debut as DC studio head marks the first solo Superman film in more than a decade. The last film focusing on the Son of Krypton was Zack Snyder’s 2013 “Man of Steel.” That timeline ends with “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” in December 2023. “Superman” arrives in theaters July 11.
