Janhvi Kapoor is at the 78th Cannes Film Festival for the world premiere and screening of her upcoming film Homebound. Just a few days ago, the actress attended the festival’s red carpet along with the rest of the film’s cast. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Janhvi has now elaborated on how she reacted when she found out about the film’s official selection at Cannes.
During the conversation, Janhvi said that she did not want to put the burden on herself that the film might go to Cannes. She said that she herself is grateful to be a part of the film. She said, “I know I went for some kind of get-together and I got a call and it said, ‘I just got the email, we’ve just been accepted!’ We’ve fallen into this category that I can’t pronounce myself! Anyway, as soon as I found out, I jumped on someone and started screaming and gasping!”
She further added that Neeraj Gheywan was very supportive of the opinions of the cast and crew and created a set that was different from any other set she has been a part of. “The fact that he empowered everyone on set to take so much ownership of the material… there was inclusion, there was so much respect.
It was simply the best atmosphere. I can’t express how therapeutic it has been for me on set.” Homebound also stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa. According to the official website of the Cannes Film Festival, the premise of the film is as follows:
“Two childhood friends from a small North Indian village seek a police job that promises to give them the respect they have long been denied. But as they get closer to their dream, growing desperation threatens the bond that holds them together.”
The film received a 9-minute standing ovation at the festival after its premiere. An emotional Neeraj Gheywan was seen hugging Karan Johar, while the rest of the cast expressed their gratitude for the film’s warm reception.
