Salman Khan and Kabir Khan have worked together on several projects over the years, including Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).
Director Kabir Khan and Salman Khan have delivered several fan favourites over the years, including Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). Though both the films did well in theatres, Kabir recently revealed that their collaboration wasn’t always smooth.
In a recent interview, the director reflected on his early days in the industry and his journey to becoming a mainstream filmmaker.
Speaking to India TV-Showbiz, the New York director spoke about how his first film with Salman came about and how producer Aditya Chopra convinced him. He said, “I remember Adi telling me to make a film with a big star, and I asked him the reason behind it.
He told me that ‘Kabir, this (making a film with a big star) is a different kind of work and I think now you can reach this level.’ I thought it was very interesting, and then we wrote Tiger.” Kabir Khan further talked about working with Salman Khan and how he kept his megastar status in mind while crafting the script of the film.
Kabir said, “I never thought that I had to do something a certain way just because Salman was there. It was only because the storyteller in me wanted to do certain things because I knew he would be able to do it well.
When you work with such a star, certain things change and you do many things differently.” Though everything looked great on paper, Kabir was about to start shooting with one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, and he admitted that there were certain challenges in doing something like that. “When we got on the set, there was a lot of fighting between Salman and me. I have spoken about this before.
It was only the third film of my career and I was working with Salman at his peak. It was also his first work with Yash Raj Films and there were a lot of discussions during that time.” He revealed how the two used to control each other and said, “Sometimes I had to pull him down and stop him from overdoing it; sometimes he used to force me to overdo it.” He also revealed that they both were quite opinionated about their work, but somehow they learnt to work with each other. “Some discussions were cordial and some made one of us angry.
Even though Tiger was not completely under my control, I think something interesting happened between the two of us and the energy we created was fantastic.” Kabir Khan also said that whatever happened on the sets of Ek Tha Tiger, there was a certain understanding and bonding between the two, which eventually translated into their next film Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
