In a candid conversation on the latest episode of In the Ring, acclaimed actress Kajol opened up about her experience working under the direction of her husband, Ajay Devgn, in his 2008 directorial debut U Me Aur Hum. The romantic drama, which marked a significant milestone in their collaborative journey, showcased both actors in emotionally charged roles and offered audiences a glimpse into their off-screen synergy translated onto the big screen.
Kajol praised Devgn’s directorial approach, describing him as “superbly confident and so organised.” She noted that while she had always believed he would make a good director, she was surprised by the level of discipline and clarity he brought to the set. “Being a director has a lot to do with organising your thoughts and putting a schedule into place—and he had that down pat from the first film itself,” she remarked.
Recalling the final shooting schedule, Kajol shared personal challenges she faced during production. With her daughter Nysa still very young and her father unwell, she had to juggle hospital visits and filming. Despite these constraints, Devgn ensured the schedule remained unaffected, allowing her to work limited hours while maintaining the film’s momentum. “We packed it in. The schedule was not impacted at all even though I was working for just six hours. He managed everything so well,” she said, commending his ability to balance professional demands with empathy.
Kajol also expressed her desire to reunite with Devgn on another directorial project, stating that she frequently encourages him to cast her again. However, she acknowledged that he may be waiting for the “perfect script” to make that happen.
On the professional front, Kajol was recently seen in Maa, a supernatural drama directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande. Her latest release, Sarzameen, an emotional drama directed by Kayoze Irani, premiered today on Jio Hotstar. Upcoming projects include Maharagni, where she stars alongside Naseeruddin Shah and Prabhu Deva, and a new talk show co-hosted with author Twinkle Khanna.
Kajol’s reflections underscore the enduring creative partnership between her and Ajay Devgn, both as artists and as a couple, leaving fans hopeful for another cinematic collaboration in the near future.
