Kajol revealed that she is now more of a friend than a parent to her kids – daughter Nysa and son Yug – and wants them to be able to have any kind of conversation with her.
Kajol recently opened up about parenting and how like every parent, she too had to change her perspective as her kids grew up. The actress revealed that she is now more of a friend than a parent to her kids – daughter Nysa and son Yug – and wants them to be able to have any kind of conversation with her.
Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Kajol recalled how she used to scold her daughter Nysa and say that she will understand everything only when she becomes a mother. In response, Nysa once told her that she will only have sons, not daughters. “They think being a son is easy,” Kajol said. She further added, “I have worked a lot on building a relationship with my kids. Being friends with kids doesn’t come naturally to mothers because we dedicate ourselves to being mothers.
And we all have to be friends with our kids after a point of time, and when we try to do that, it becomes difficult. We have to work hard to be friends with the kids and have uncomfortable conversations with them and keep those uncomfortable feelings to ourselves – all in order to be friends with our kids.”
Kajol further added, “I have made sure that I am a mother, but I am also so open to my kids that they come to me and tell me about their lives.”
She emphasised that as a parent, it is important to listen to the kids without any judgement. When asked if her kids talk to her about their relationships, she said, “I hope they can tell me that. My son is young but my daughter definitely – we will have those kind of conversations.”
It was earlier being speculated that Nysa, like her parents, will also join the Hindi film industry but Kajol had rubbished such claims in a previous interview. She had said in a News18 programme, “Not at all… No, she is 22, about to be here now. I think she has made up her mind that Abhi Naye Aayi Wali Hai.”
On the work front, Kajol will be next seen in Maa, a horror film which is a spinoff of Ajay Devgn’s 2024 film Shaitan. The film will release on June 27. She also has Sarzameen and Maharani: Queen of Queens in the pipeline.
