Kangana Ranaut skips hearing in Javed Akhtar’s defamation case; Court warns ‘Thalaivii’ actress with an arrest warrant

A Mumbai Court on Tuesday gave a stern warning to Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut that if she fails to appear before it on the next date of hearing on September 20 in in a defamation case filed against her by noted lyricist Javed Akhtar, the Court will be forced to issue an arrest warrant against her.

The court of Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate today granted exemption from appearance to the actor, after her Counsel Rizwan Siddiquee said that she has constantly been travelling and asked to undergo a Covid-19 test as she has developed some symptoms.

During a recent hearing of this matter, Kangana’s lawyer had stated that lyricist Javed Akhtar

had called the actress and her sister, Rangoli Chandel, with the help of a doctor commonly known to both of them. On his part, Javed Akhtar reportedly maintained that he tried to ‘advise and pacify’ Kangana Ranaut to settle her issues with Hrithik Roshan. He also stated that Kangana did not listen to him and said that she will handle the issue as per her choice.

Last year Javed Akhtar had filed a case following Kangana’s alleged ‘defamatory and baseless comments’ against him during a television interview. In December 2020, the court directed the Juhu police to conduct an inquiry into Akhtar’s complaint and subsequently an offence of defamation was prima facie made out and the court initiated criminal proceedings against the actress. Last week, the Bombay High Court had dismissed the plea filed by Kangana, seeking to quash the defamation case filed against her, based on the lyricist Javed Akhtar’s complaint.
