Kathir and Shine Tom Chacko Headline Emcy Joseph’s Forest Thriller ‘Meesha’

Kochi, July 25 — The trailer for Meesha, an upcoming Malayalam survival thriller directed by Emcy Joseph, has been released, offering a tense and atmospheric glimpse into a story of friendship, betrayal, and psychological unraveling set deep in the forest.

Produced by Sajeer Gafur under the Unicorn Movies banner and distributed by Capital Cinemas, Meesha is slated for theatrical release on August 1, 2025. The film stars Tamil actor Kathir, making his Malayalam debut, alongside Shine Tom Chacko, Hakim Shah, Jeo Baby, Sudhi Koppa, Srikant Murali, Unni Lalu, and Hasli.

The narrative centers on a group of old friends who reunite in a remote forest. What begins as a nostalgic gathering quickly descends into chaos, revealing buried tensions, shifting loyalties, and psychological suspense. The trailer transitions from moments of camaraderie to eerie silences and confrontations, hinting at a night of reckoning.

Director Emcy Joseph, known for Vikruthi (2019), explores darker terrain in Meesha, crafting a character-driven thriller that probes masculinity, ego clashes, and the fragility of friendship under pressure. Kathir portrays Midhun, a complex role that demanded linguistic and emotional preparation. In a recent interview, he shared his initial doubts about taking on a Malayalam-speaking character, but credited Joseph’s confidence and guidance for helping him embrace the challenge.

The film’s technical crew enhances its immersive tone. Cinematographer Suresh Rajan captures the haunting isolation of the forest, while editor Manoj builds a steady rhythm of unease. Sooraj S Kurup’s music, already resonating online, adds emotional depth. Visuals are refined by DI specialist Poetic, colourist Jayadev Tiruveaipati, and VFX studio IVFX. Sound design by Arun Rama Varma and promotional work by Thought Station, Roxstar, and Illuminartist round out the film’s aesthetic.

Costume designer Sameera Saneesh and makeup artist Jithesh Poyya contribute to the grounded realism of the ensemble. The production, logistically demanding due to its forest setting, was managed by Praveen B Menon and line producer Sunny Thazhuthala.

With its layered performances and taut storytelling, Meesha promises to be a gripping addition to Malayalam cinema’s growing repertoire of psychological thrillers.
