Keira Knightley’s ‘Pride & Prejudice’ Set for 20th Anniversary Re-Release in Indian Cinemas

New Delhi, July 17, 2025 — Joe Wright’s critically acclaimed 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, is scheduled to return to Indian theatres on July 25, 2025, marking the film’s 20th anniversary.

The re-release is being organized by PVR INOX, in collaboration with United International Pictures (UIP), as part of a global initiative to celebrate the enduring legacy of the romantic drama. The film, based on Jane Austen’s 1813 literary classic, follows the story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy as they navigate themes of class, family, and emotional growth in early 19th-century England.

Knightley’s portrayal of Elizabeth Bennet earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, while the film itself received four Oscar nominations and a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer/Director/Producer for Wright. The ensemble cast includes Donald Sutherland, Rosamund Pike, Carey Mulligan, Jena Malone, Tom Hollander, Judi Dench, Talulah Riley, and Rupert Friend.

The film was recently re-released in the United States, where it grossed over USD 5 million, reaffirming its status as a cult classic. According to Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX, the Indian re-release aims to offer audiences “a nostalgic and cinematic experience in high definition,” allowing both longtime fans and new viewers to enjoy the film on the big screen.

Pride & Prejudice is widely regarded as one of the finest modern adaptations of Austen’s work, praised for its cinematography, score by Dario Marianelli, and costume design. The film is also available for streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

The re-release will be available across select PVR INOX theatres in India beginning July 25.
