‘Kesari Chapter 2’ Review: A Gripping Tale of Tragedy

Kesari Chapter 2 is a gripping courtroom drama that explores the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is inspired by the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. It follows the legal battle led by Sir Sankaran Nair, played by Akshay Kumar, against the British Empire, exposing their atrocities and seeking justice for the victims.

The film transitions from the tragedy of the massacre to a courtroom showdown, where Nair, initially loyal to the British, becomes disillusioned upon realizing the massacre was a premeditated act of genocide. His transformation and legal fight, alongside co-counsel Dilreet Kaur, portrayed by Ananya Panday, against the British establishment’s Mr. McKenzie, played by R. Madhavan, form the core of the story.

Critics have praised the film’s powerful performances, haunting musical score, and historical depth. Songs like Teri Mitti and Oh Shera add emotional weight to the narrative. However, some reviews note that the depiction of the massacre could have been more impactful, and certain dialogues spoken by British characters in Hindi may be difficult to comprehend.

The film has received rave reviews from audiences, with many calling it a must-watch for every Indian. It has been described as a cinematic explosion of patriotism, power, and pride, with Akshay Kumar’s performance standing out.

However, Kesari Chapter 2 faced an early setback as it was leaked online just hours after its release, despite Akshay Kumar urging fans to avoid piracy and experience the film in theaters.
