London took initiative at public peeing with wall paint that splashes urine back

A central London district popular for its nightlife, but also residence to 1000 of people, has tried out a unique way to tackle the persistent problem of public urination: so-called anti-pee paint.

Officials in Soho — restaurants, theatres , a warren of bars, apartments and houses and other entertainment venues– are treating walls at nearly a dozen problem sites with the special spray-on liquid.

The industrial strength “surface protection” forms a transparent water-repellent coating that splashes back urine when it hits, providing instant payback for offenders.

Westminster City Council has taken the steps to the initiative following complaints from some of Soho’s approximately 3,000 residents, as well as from workers and business operators.
