Madhuri Dixit’s husband Dr Shriram Nene admitted that he sometimes feels uncomfortable that he is not respected, especially when he is considered less than his celebrity wife.
Madhuri Dixit’s husband Dr Shriram Nene opened up about playing a second-rate role to a celebrity like her. He admitted that sometimes he gets upset with it and wants to be seen as an individual himself. He also spoke about his new-found celebrity status and how frustrated he feels when he is asked for selfies.
Dr Nene is a health influencer who came to India a few years ago to support Madhuri’s comeback to films. He said he would like to use his fame for good and is a firm believer in the ‘power of one person’.
In a panel discussion with Dr Deepak Chopra, which he posted on his YouTube channel, Dr Nene said, “I’m the accidental Yankee in King Arthur’s court, and the accidental tourist if you will. My wife is famous, I’m just here to visit. But, apart from the imposter syndrome faced by all of us on the spectrum, it’s the power to make a difference in the lives of many.
Never underestimate how powerful each of you is.” Reflecting on how his life changed after marrying Madhuri and moving to India, he said, “We were toying with the idea of using fame for the benefit of others. I was at UCLA, I looked after a lot of celebrities. This was when I wasn’t even married.
They just wanted to be anonymous. They wanted to put their pants on one leg at a time, and not be addressed. Now I’m facing the opposite. Everyone wants to take selfies with me. How do I deal with that? Honestly, I want to interact with them, but it becomes challenging.”
In another video on his channel, in which he interacted with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and discussed the negative aspects of fame, he said, “Sometimes, it gets me down… The hardest part for me, and I’ll be honest, I’ve never accepted it… My wife and I are independent, living beings.
And yet, sometimes, they see me as their weakness. I joke about that, because she’s definitely the better half, she’s the love of my life. Everyone I know should be respected from top to bottom. There’s no ‘Sir’ in my house, in my office or anywhere.”
Madhuri quit her acting career when it was at its peak and moved to the United States after marrying Dr. Nene. She stayed there for several years and raised her two sons, Arin and Ryan, before moving back to India in the mid-2000s.
