CM hands over Rs. 10 lakh reward to Peh village
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday handed over a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh to Peh (Paoyi) village under Ukhrul district in appreciation for steps taken to destroy poppy plantation.
Lauding the villagers for their resolve to destroy poppy plantation, the chief minister assured to construct a marketing shed, with an estimated cost of around Rs 10 lakh and a primary health centre for the village soon.
Apart from this, he also assured to provide water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission and also take into consideration to develop cultural heritage site as suggested by the villagers.
Stating that the government was ready to provide assistance to villagers as an alternative to poppy plantation, Singh asked the villagers to consult the concerned officials regarding suitability of other crops in their village.
He further urged them to create awareness of the government’s war on drugs campaign in their neighbouring villages.
“Peh would be promoted as a role model for other villages in our ‘War on Drugs’. I urge residents of all other villages to follow the example of Peh,” Biren Singh said.
Appreciating the government’s decision to reward them, Paoyi villagers assured that they would extend full support and cooperation to the government’s ongoing ‘war on drugs’ campaign.
The Peh village council, Peh village court, Peh youth organisation and Peh Shanao Long also interacted with Biern Singh.
Khasim Vashum legislator of Chingai A/C, state chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar and DGP LM Khaute were among others who attended the programme.
