MUMBAI, September 3 — Renowned Marathi singer and actor Rahul Deshpande has publicly confirmed his legal separation from wife Neha Deshpande, marking the end of their 17-year marriage. The announcement was made via a heartfelt Instagram post on September 2, in which the National Award-winning artist shared that the couple’s legal separation had been amicably finalized in September 2024.
In his statement, Deshpande emphasized that the decision was mutual and rooted in respect and understanding. “After 17 years of marriage and countless cherished memories, Neha and I have mutually parted ways and continue our lives independently,” he wrote. He added that the delay in sharing the news publicly was intentional, allowing both families time to process the transition privately.
The couple shares a daughter, Renuka, whose well-being remains their highest priority. Deshpande affirmed his commitment to co-parenting, stating, “She remains my highest priority, and I am committed to co-parenting her with Neha, with unwavering love, support, and stability.” He also requested privacy and understanding from fans and well-wishers during this personal transition.
Rahul Deshpande, grandson of legendary Patiala Gharana vocalist Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande, is celebrated for his contributions to Hindustani classical music and Marathi musical theatre. He gained widespread acclaim for his portrayal of his grandfather in the biographical film Me Vasantrao, which earned him the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer. His repertoire spans khayal, dhrupad, natyasangeet, and bhavgeet, and he has played a pivotal role in reviving classic Marathi musical dramas such as Sangeet Maanapmaan and Sangeet Sanshaykallol.
Despite the personal upheaval, Deshpande continues to be active in his artistic pursuits, recently receiving the Filmfare Award for Best Male Singer for the song “Sarale Saare” from the film Amaltash. His dignified handling of the separation has drawn support from fans and peers alike, reinforcing his reputation as a thoughtful and emotionally grounded artist.
As he enters this new chapter, Deshpande expressed gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his journey, concluding his message with, “With love and gratitude, Rahul.”
