SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR’s Naatu Naatu on Monday created history by becoming the first Indian film to win the Oscar for Best Original Song. RRR was the first Indian film in over two decades to be nominated for an Academy Award and ‘Naatu Naatu’ was the first Indian song to be nominated for an Oscar.
Composed by MM Keeravaani, the energetic song was also performed at the Academy Awards.
Keeravaani accepted the award in a musical performance, describing the song as “India’s pride” and greeting the Oscar audience with “Namaste”.
“I had only one wish in mind. So was Rajamouli’s (RRR director) and my family. RRR must win. And it will put me on top of the world!”
