As many as 19 teachers of different government schools in Manipur were placed under suspension from their services in two days after they were found absent during education minister’s surprise inspections.
State education minister S Rajen was on surprise inspections of government schools from Tuesday.
On the first day of his inspection on Tuesday, the minister found unauthorised absence of 17 teachers in two different schools in Imphal West and Imphal East districts.
Irked by teachers not attending schools despite his repeated warning in the past, the education minister instructed concerned officials of the state education (school) directorate to put the teachers under suspension from their service immediately.
On the same day, the directorate issued orders suspending eight teachers of Lamdeng Government High School in Imphal West district.
While informing the suspension of the teachers in a press conference held at his office late yesterday evening, officials of the directorate informed that processes were being initiated for suspension of nine more teachers.
The orders for suspension of nine teachers of Lamlong Higher Secondary School in Imphal East district were issued today along with two more teachers of Khonghampat High School of the same district. The two teachers were absent when the minister visited the school on Wednesday during his surprise inspection further.
A statement of the education minister today said that he continued routine inspection of schools at Khongampat Government High School, Heibongpokpi Government High School and Khurkhul High School in Imphal East district.
While checking the attendance register of the teachers at Khongampat Government High School, two teachers were found absent without prior permission from the school authority.
In the statement, the minister stated that the surprise visit will continue covering other districts.
The minister appealed to all school staff to be dutiful and sincere to their service as exams were knocking at the door.
He also urged the teachers to work in the interest of the students so that students can cope with the syllabus which could not be covered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
