Manipur reported yet another death of a COVID-19 frontline worker after an anganwadi worker died allegedly after receiving COVID-19 vaccine.
The state had earlier reported the death of a woman frontline worker, that too, an anganwadi worker in Bishnupur district on February 19 last, a week after she received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
The second death case allegedly after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine was reported in Jiribam district of Manipur bordering Assam on Sunday.
The 72-year-old anganwadi worker, identified as HD Thansing wife of late HD Kapthieng of Chottobekra of Jiribam died Saturday evening, around 6.30 pm, reports said.
Relatives of the deceased alleged that she died after taking first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
They said that she received the first dose of the vaccine on February 17 last and since then she was treated in different hospitals in the neighbouring state of Assam.
She was admitted at Jiribam district hospital on February 27, 10 days after she received the vaccine even though she reportedly started complaining about fever and health weakness on the same day she was administered the vaccine.
She was admitted to the hospital after her health condition deteriorated, reports quoted family and relatives of the deceased.
As there was no sign of improving her health condition, the authority of the district hospital referred her to a hospital (Alipur hospital) in Cachar town of neighbouring Assam.
After a few days under medical care at the hospital, she was again shifted to another hospital (Valley hospital in the same town) considering the severity of her health condition.
From there, she was again referred to Silchar Medical hospital on Saturday afternoon but succumbed, around 6.30pm on the way to the hospital.
The last rites of the deceased was performed today after a post mortem examination at Jiribam district hospital and an understanding was reached between the family members and Jiribam district administration in a talk today, the report said.
The family members accepted the body after the district administration assured appointment of a member of the family of the deceased to the post anganwadi work which the deceased served.
With the death of the woman, two women have died allegedly after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in the state in less than a month.
On February 19 last, a 48-year-old woman, who was also an anganwadi worker, died a week after she received COVID-19 vaccination.
After receiving the vaccine, Naorem Sundari Devi wife of N Roken Singh of Kumbi Terakha of Bishnupur district had a complaint of rashes and fever.
She too died on the way to a hospital in Imphal where she was referred from a CHC in Bishnupur district.
On the other hand, continuing the vaccination against COVID-19, 2,940 people were inoculated on Sunday, taking the total number of vaccinated people to 68,405 on Sunday.
The beneficiaries included 30,368 healthcare workers, said the daily COVID-19 update report of the state health department.
The update report did not mention the death of the frontline workers but stated that there were no severe reactions or allergies and adverse events following the immunisation drive in the state except 47 mild reactions who have already recovered fully.
Oral health awareness camp at Tikenvong: Nagaland
With an aim to spread awareness about oral health hygiene, a one-day oral health awareness camp was held on February 27, at Tikenvong village under Pungro block, Kiphire district.
In a press release CMO office, district media officer Haichikambe Pame stated that the oral health camp was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Weri Mero, dental surgeon from Pungro CHC.
It may be mentioned that 120 cases were registered during the day, wherein, 50 oral prophylaxis, 18 extraction, 12 root stump, 10 temporary filling, and 30 fluoride application were carried out.
Members of village health committee, village council and the villagers took active part during the event. The camp was organized to promote good oral health and dental hygiene.
